Sophie Grey. (the period is intentional) is taking on the world one song at a time armed with her synth-axe and a propensity for writing, arranging, performing AND producing her own modern electro-inspired music. She will perform at American Express Presents BST Hyde Park on Sunday 5th July 2026.
What is your earliest musical memory?
My earliest musical memory was listening to anything and everything on the radio. I remember music being on all the time, and that’s what I still love today.
When did you begin songwriting?
I started songwriting when I was around 12 years old. But my production has developed since then into becoming what you hear now: Retro Electro music.
Which of your tracks hear you at your happiest, angriest and most reflective?
As of right now, I would have to say “Lunar Highs (Hands Go Up)” pulls out all three feelings out of me because it is such an emotionally driven song, without much rational thinking. The emotions flip all over because that’s what happens when you are lunar high.
One of your tracks is the new single “Lunar Highs (Hands Go Up)” . What was the story or inspiration behind the track?
“Lunar Highs (Hands Go Up)” is objectively about the best night out on the moon. But, being Lunar High is emotional. You feel very happy yet sad that you don’t want it to end – nostalgic, and you want to do it all again. Lunar High lets you be who you are wherever you may be in the galaxy.
Was it a difficult song to write?
I honestly can’t remember writing it. I feel like sometimes when I write, i’m being taken over by my feelings. I was taken over by Lunar Highs
Do you have any further music releases planned for 2026/27?
I released Lunar Highs (Hands Go Up) on June 26, and am feeling electrified by that. I do have more songs to release soon after.
Could you describe your hometown in five words?
My home town: busy, quiet, all at once.
How do you look after your voice?
I try to stay hydrated, especially with all the travel involved in touring
You will be performing on Sunday 5th July 2026 at BST Hyde Park. How did that opportunity arise and how are you feeling about the show?
Duran Duran is one of the coolest bands ever. To be a part of such an incredible lineup is very exciting. I feel really excited to perform, and am also looking forward to watching everyone else’s set that night.
Do you have any further UK or European dates planned for 2026/27?
I will be opening for Grace Jones, Sophie Ellis-Bexter, Soul II Soul on July 31, and playing Manchester Pride on August 29
What two things do you hope to have achieved once you’ve left the stage?
When I leave the stage, I wish for the audience to be happy and welcomed into my world. Perhaps many of them feel seen. If I leave the stage knowing they were entertained, then I am very satisfied.
Do you have any favoured stage instruments, effects, pedals, microphones etc?
I always perform with my keytar on stage.
You are given the opportunity to write the score for a film adaptation of a novel that you enjoy. Which novel is it and why?
Stranger in a Strange Land by Robert Heinlein. It’s a book about a human raised by Martians that comes back to Earth. In terms of composing music for a film adaptation of the book, I think I’d like it because I relate to the main character.
Who are some of your musical influences? Do you have any recommendations?
I love George Michael and Wham! . That was the first cover I released “Everything She Wants” and it’s still one of my favorite songs. I’m also a big fan of TOTO, and any of their songs are worth listening to.
What makes Sophie Grey. happy and what makes you unhappy?
Music makes me very happy. I love performing, writing, producing, and making friends with the individuals in the crowd who are like me. I’ve met so many incredible people around the world, and I believe it reaffirms that even when you feel different or out of the ordinary, someone else feels that way too and relates.
