UK alt-metal bruisers, TALLBOY, continue their swift rise with the release of their blistering new single and video, The One Below All, out now. We caught up with the band to find out more:

Who is in Tallboy, how did you meet and what do you play?

Tallboy is Brad Crook (vocalist), Arron Twinney (bass), Jordan Gelling (guitar), Adam Twinney (guitar) & Callum Warren (drums)

What is your earliest musical memory?

For me, it all kicked off with School of Rock back in 2004. I went home buzzing, picked up my friend’s dad’s guitar, and he taught me my very first riff – Arron

When did you begin songwriting?

We kicked this project off a few years ago as a spur of the moment jam, and by the end of that session we had our first single, “Coward,” practically ready for release.

You have your new single ‘The One Below All’ which is out now. What was the story/inspiration behind the track?

The track began with a bass riff, which we then built on by adding our own layers. The original lyrical idea came when Arron was watching the film Long Legs, where a passage from Revelation 13 is quoted. Although we’re not religious, that line sparked the opening lyrics and helped shape the overall concept of the song.

Where did you record the track and who produced it?

We record everything in house at Arron’s home studio, he produced, mixed and mastered it.

Do you have any interesting, funny or memorable stories from the recording sessions?

The solo section on this track was chaos in the best way. We had Jordan looping for about twenty minutes straight, then someone whipped out a phone and hit record and that was the take that made the cut. It’s up on our socials if you want to hear the magic unfold.

Did you use any particular instruments, microphones, recording equipment to help you get a particular sound/tone for the record?

Everything is pretty much done in the box.

We use Neural DSP for all the guitars & bass tracks, for vocals we use a Shure SM7B, the drums are played through an electric kit and then put through GGD drum libraries.

Which of your tracks hear you at your a) happiest, b) angriest and c) most reflective?

A) Bit hard to answer this given our material so far (there are definitely some more positive songs in the pipeline). However I will ironically answer – Ego Trip
B) Snake – this song from our EP is effectively a diss track on someone so everything that went into it was personal. While The One Below All is the heaviest we’ve done yet. I would definitely say Snake is the angriest.
C) My Mind Is A Warzone – This song is all about looking inside and looking for that hope/positivity that you need to drive you through the day but struggling to keep hold of it

Was it a difficult song to write?

This one came about pretty easy to be honest, it started as a bass riff then we just kept adding layer and layer. It all came together once Brad put his vocals on it and made it even more chaotic.

The single is accompanied by a video. What was the thought process behind the video and who directed it?

The video aims to reflect the lyrics so it is all centred around a man stood at the edge of the sea looking over it as this beast emerges and the storm ensues. The unmoving person and the beast are there to represent the inevitability of the songs lyrics. Brad was the one who gave the directions for this video

Where is your hometown and could you please describe it in five words?

Barrow-in-Furness – industrial, coastal, resilient, close-knit, underrated.

How do you look after your voices?

Water, Gaviscon and Vocalzone products. Brad has constant issues with acid reflux so Gaviscon is his best friend. On the days of practice and shows, he goes through basic warmups early in the day (stretching and humming) and ensuring he stays hydrated. Avoiding acidic food is key as that impacts the voice. The only thing other than water used to help prepare and maintain the voice is Vocalzone or similar products which can help soothe your throat or help lubricate it. Another key thing is to not overwork your voice during the day.

Do you have any live dates planned in the UK/Europe in 2026?

We have a whole bunch of shows to announce shortly, first run is predominately northern England at the moment.

What two things do you hope to have achieved once you have left the stage?

First and foremost, we hope we all leave feeling like we had a great time and that everything went according to plan. Just as importantly, we hope the crowd enjoyed themselves and leave with a lasting memory of the performance.

Do you have any favoured stage instruments, effects, pedals, microphones etc?

We’re huge fans of Neural DSP & Darkglass all our guitar & bass rigs are digital which is a game changer!

Do you have any further music releases planned for 2026?

We have a whole bunch of new material recorded and currently in the mixing stage, we hope to have an album out by the end of the year.

Who are some of your musical influences? Do you have any recommendations?

We all come from different musical backgrounds, with far too many influences to name, but we think they all blend together nicely to create the Tallboy sound.

What makes Tallboy happy and what makes you unhappy?

We love writing music, every time we get in a room together and start creating, we come away with new material that we’re all really excited about. Making music is what makes us happiest. We don’t want to sound too negative, but social media can sometimes feel like a chore. Trying to fit into an algorithm can be frustrating and occasionally makes it feel like all your effort is disappearing into a void.
