Returning to the venue where the iconic ‘Live & Dangerous’ album was recorded 50 years ago in 1976, it’s time to go beyond the headlines. ‘Moonlight’ tells a deeper story of an Irish music icon — exploring Philip Lynott’s formative years, his struggles, his legacy and inspiration to musicians around the world, honouring him in the pantheon of great Irish poets. It’s a truly authentic portrayal of one of the most authentic rockers of all time.
Actor and singer Peter M. Smith leads an incredible cast bringing “Philip Lynott” to life like never before, supported by acclaimed actor Padraic O’Loingsigh in the role of “Brendan Behan”. International star Brian Kennedy (currently on “Dancing with the Stars”) plays “Oscar Wilde”, with original founding member Thin Lizzy guitarist Eric Bell making a special guest appearance.
Peter M. Smith says: “When offered the chance to play the role of Philip Lynott, I was truly honoured as an actor, as a proud Dubliner, and as a Thin Lizzy fanatic. Too much has been said about the rockstar lifestyle – it is a tired subject. This production seeks to honour Philip Lynott for what he was – a literary great and consummate artist.”
The amazing Moonlight Band blasts out the Thin Lizzy anthems and new original tracks live, in a high-energy unforgettable show that will have you on your feet, laughing, crying and singing as we tell a unique story that needs to be told.
January 4th 2026 coincides with the 40th anniversary of the passing of Lynott. There is a huge resurgence of interest in him, his music and his legacy, coinciding with the global trends among audiences of nostalgia, authenticity and Irish artistic culture. “MOONLIGHT” is a deeper portrait of Lynott that explores the key events that shaped and drove him, and his relationships with those around him. The drama explores themes of isolation, creative genius, flawed character, struggles with fame, and being awake and inspired when everyone else was asleep.
The production completed a hugely successful tour of Ireland in 2025, performing to packed houses in Dublin (Vicar Street), Belfast (Ulster hall) and other venues. Audiences and critics have been wowed by the show – here are just some of the comments:
“A well-wrought work of uncompromising brilliance”- Hot Press
“Smith brings Lynott to life again – **** The Daily Mail
“Moonlight Successfully locates Lynott in Ireland’s Literary pantheon where he belongs” – Irish Examiner
“A must see” – Joe Duffy, leading national broadcaster
“One of the greatest things I’ve ever seen” – Brush Shiels, founder Skid Row
