‘Tiny’ is a personal story about a deep longing to welcome a child into the world when this isn’t as forthcoming as hoped. This song is intended to comfort and soothe those familiar with these feelings and to offer a sense of understanding when one might feel quite alone. This is the 1st single release from Gitta’s 4th album, due for release next year and produced by Jonatan Backelie (Sweden). The album contains themes around self-acceptance, longing, grief and change. A very personal yet universal collection of works.
“Writing this song gave me a space to pour out sadness, longing and hopefulness all at the same time. After 3+ years of ‘trying’ to conceive, finding the space to sit with all that it brought up, and then perhaps on some level letting go of any desired outcome, I turned out to be pregnant quite shortly after finishing writing this song. It’s a mystery to me sometimes how life does its thing. Working with Jonatan on this song, and the subsequent album, has felt like the most natural thing in the world where everything fell into place so smoothly. I’m thrilled to have been able to create this album and can’t wait to share it with the world!” Gitta de Ridder.
With the new music, Gitta skillfully crosses genre boundaries from modern folk and new acoustics to pop, while maintaining a distinctive and recognisable sound. Where poetic lyrics meet the honesty and rawness of folk music, she adds a lightness and pop edge without losing sight of meaning and authenticity.
Her musical journey has taken her from the Dutch’ new lands’ of Flevoland to the heart of the British indie-folk scene. Having lived in the UK for several years, Gitta creates songs that touch the soul, a true antidote for any heart in need. Her enchanting presence has been likened to a fusion of Joni Mitchell’s depth and Mary Poppins’ charm, radiating love, warmth, and introspection.
Gitta’s music embraces simplicity and purity; each note a captivating tale of human connection with ourselves and others.
