Liz Stringer Releases New Album And Shares New Single
Today, Liz Stringer, the London-based and critically revered singer-songwriter releases The Second High, her seventh album in an incredible twenty year career, and easily her most impressive. To celebrate its release, she has released her final and most revealing single, ‘I’ll Never Abandon Myself Again.’
Introduced by symphonic synths, ‘I’ll Never Abandon Myself Again’ launches into motorik rhythm, intersecting guitar lines, and, supported by a choir of female voices, delivers one of the most urgent and emotional points on the album as we see mantra become declaration.
Revealing the inspiration behind the track, Stringer explains, “I was in a long-term relationship, for many years, which was a damaging one and during which I completely lost all sense of myself. This song is the first time I’ve written directly about it because, even though it was years ago now, it’s only been the last couple of years that I’ve fully returned to who I really am enough to express my feelings around it. I’ll never be in that position again because my relationship with myself is so much stronger and I’m way too aware of my own worth. The song is a reminder to continue to listen to my instinct and to stay by my own side. I had a group of women singers, friends of mine, lend their unique and powerful voices to the song, which gives it, for me, the force that was required to push the mantra home.”
Out today, The Second High is unlike anything Stringer has delivered before. From the effortlessly funky ‘The Second High’ and the sun-stroked synth pop of last year’s ‘Coming Home’ to the social realistic neo-soul of ‘To Survive,’ The Second High pushes the rich imagery, gut-punch vocals and virtuosic guitar playing that Stringer is known for, and demonstrates her vast songwriting talents clearer than ever.
