Nação Zumbi Celebrate 30th Anniversary Of Iconic Debut Album Da Lama Ao Caos
Nação Zumbi will mark the 30th anniversary of their ground-breaking debut album, Da Lama Ao Caos, with an exclusive show at Village Underground in East London on July 30, 2025. A true milestone in Brazilian music history, the album remains as powerful and influential today as it was upon its release.
Nação Zumbi, now comprised of Jorge Du Peixe (vocals), Dengue (bass) and Toca Ogan (percussion), as well as guest musicians Marcos Matias, Da Lua and Tom Rocha (drums), and Neilton Carvalho (guitar), exploded onto the Brazilian scene with a revolutionary new sound featuring well-crafted, energetic songs that blended funk, rock, maracatu, embolada, psychedelia and African music. Da Lama Ao Caos played a pivotal role in the development of the Manguebeat Movement; a cultural wave rooted in the percussive traditions of maracatu and coco that incorporated an array of influences from rock to hip-hop, funk and electronica. The album soon gained international recognition and helped pave the way for Brazil’s 1990s rock scene, leaving a lasting impact on future generations of musicians. Ranked #13 on Rolling Stone magazine’s list of the best Brazilian albums, Da Lama Ao Caos continues to be celebrated as a landmark in Brazilian music. In 2022, it was named the best MPB (Brazilian Popular Music) album of the past 40 years in a nationwide poll of 25 music experts conducted by O Globo newspaper.
This special anniversary performance will transport audiences back to the raw energy of the early ’90s Brazilian scene, reviving the infectious rhythms that propelled Manguebeat onto the global stage.
