Robert Kane Announces First Solo Album
Lead singer of Dr Feelgood for a quarter of a century now, Robert Kane is to release his first ever solo album – ‘Blues Is Blues’.
Out on award winning British independent label, Conquest Music, ‘Blues is Blues’ will be available on CD and digital services from Friday 26th September 2025.
The first single from the album is a cracking R&B belter, Halfway to Memphis.
“Like a loaded gun in a nervous hand
Nothing is sacred that I don’t understand”
Robert Kane‘s professional music career began with the Showbiz Kids, a New Wave group who became one of the busiest and most popular in North East England.
In the nineties Robert turned to R&B with ‘The Alligators’, who gigged constantly for the next five years.
One of The Alligators was guitarist Hilton Valentine from the Animals so drummer John Steel was recruited along with Robert and they spent the next few years touring the world as The Animals.
They’d crossed paths with lots of bands at various festivals around the world. One of which was Dr Feelgood, and when they were in need of a new singer, Robert was approached.
He accepted the offer and in 1999 became a permanent member of the legendary Thames Delta Kings of British R&B. Robert has now racked up around 3000 gigs with the Dr Feelgood.
And now, after a career spanning over 50 years, Robert Kane is releasing an album under his own name for the first time.
Asked ‘Why now?’ he replied ‘I was sitting at home messing about on guitar one day and started playing a song I’d written years before. Thinking ‘well that’s not a bad song’ I then realised I’d never played it to anyone! So, I had a little moment there and I thought ‘Well, does a song actually exist if no one’s ever heard it’? That’s when I knew that some of these songs I’d had lying around for years needed to be recorded.’
He drew up a list of songs and knew the approach he wanted – keep everything as simple and stripped back as possible: no harmonies, no backing vocals, no unnecessary doodling.
In the studio he would play the song to the musicians, run through it once with them and then record it and try to capture it first take. This method worked so well that everything on the album is first or second take.
Robert Kane continues to tour constantly with Dr Feelgood across UK, Europe and USA.
