Soundcheque and RNIB present Sound for Sight Announcement
Concertgoers will have the opportunity to experience music in a whole new way at a unique event which aims to raise awareness of sight loss on World Sight Day (Thursday 8 October).
Audience members will be offered ‘sim-specs’ which simulate reduced vision as they watch the exciting line-up of artists which so far includes former Westlife star Markus Feehily, Babyshambles’ Drew McConnell, Britain’s Got Talent winner Paul Potts and X Factor finalist Luke Friend.
Other artists on the line-up are comedian Mark Watson, Blind opera singer Denise Leigh, Bare Hunter, Bella Figura, Carrie Haber, Izzy Bizu, Kelvin Jones, Lenny, Llana Lorraine, Mo Pleasure, Samuel Jack, Willow Robinson, and Yap.
‘Sound for Sight’, RNIB’s first concert, at Notting Hill’s The Tabernacle, will be held on Thursday 8 October. The event will raise money for the UK’s leading sight loss charity RNIB (Royal National Institute of Blind People)
The inaugural 2014 event was hosted by the BBC’s Jeremy Vine and included performances from opera singer Bryn Terfel and Dan Gillespie-Sells of The Feeling.
The event has been organised by Soundcheque, a ‘fair trade’ music company in association with RNIB. Soundcheque founder Laura Westcott created Sound for Sight in 2014 after finding out that a friend had been diagnosed with the sight loss condition Retinitis Pigmentosa (RP). She said:
“I accidentally created something incredibly special for a cause that’s really important to me. I am delighted that the London event in 2015 looks set to be even bigger and better than last year. ”
James Risdon, Music Officer at RNIB, added: “As a blind musician I’m really excited about how Sound for Sight will challenge the way we listen to music. I hope the audience enjoys the chance to experience live music from a new perspective, even if it is just for a few minutes with the glasses on. We’re really pleased to be working with Soundcheque to host Sound for Sight and it promises to be a great night.”
