Texas Troubadour Dallas Burrow Unveils New Single

by | Jul 24, 2026

Texas singer-songwriter Dallas Burrow releases “Modern Day Vagabond,” the title track from his forthcoming album due September 25 via 40 Below Records. The album follows the critical success of The Way The West Was Won, which earned a four-star review and Album of the Month honors from MOJO, while lead single “Read ‘Em And Weep,” featuring Ray Wylie Hubbard, received widespread radio support. Produced by Grammy Award-winning Adam Odor (The Chicks, Silverada) and acclaimed songwriter Mike McClure (The Great Divide), Modern Day Vagabond finds Burrow turning inward, trading frontier mythology for songs inspired by his own life as a husband, father, songwriter and lifelong traveler.

Recorded with a roster of Texas all-stars, the album showcases the timeless country sound that has earned Burrow success in both the U.S. and abroad.

Raised by a musician who spent the 1970s swapping songs with Guy Clark and Townes Van Zandt, Burrow grew up with the road in his blood. Years of traveling eventually brought him back to New Braunfels, Texas, where he built a life as a family man and proprietor of the iconic Redbird Listening Room. That balance between wanderlust and home lies at the heart of “Modern Day Vagabond,” a song that became the thematic centerpiece of the album.

“This song is sort of a declaration,” says Burrow. “I’ve spent much of my life traveling around the country and around the world searching for stories, characters, freedom and adventure. Ramblin’ is in my blood. The difference now is that I have a family and a home waiting for me. It’s the best of both worlds.”

Blending the romance of the wandering troubadour with the grounding pull of home, “Modern Day Vagabond” is anchored by the refrain, “I’ll make my living out in the wind,” transforming the lyric into both a personal manifesto and a statement of purpose.

“There’s a little tip of the hat to Robert Earl Keen with the line ‘the road goes on and on,’ but when I sing ‘your soul shines on and on,’ that’s really the message I’m trying to get across, not just with this song, but with the whole record. We all have a light inside us, and we’re meant to shine.”

The recording features Burrow’s “Dream Band,” including producers Mike McClure (acoustic guitar) and Adam Odor (bass), Katie Shore (fiddle), Colin Brooks (dobro and pedal steel), Kullen Fox (accordion), Daniel Davis (piano), Cameron Martin (drums), Susan Gibson (harmony vocals), and additional gang vocals from McClure, Davis, Eric Harrison, Mike Ingber and Burrow himself.

As the album’s title track, “Modern Day Vagabond” embodies the themes at the heart of the record: love, family, faith, redemption and resilience. Richly rooted in country music while embracing Americana, gospel, soul and rock & roll, the album finds Dallas Burrow balancing the freedom of the open road with the deeper rewards of finally having a place—and people—to come home to.
