Ellis Mano Band Featuring Lachy Doley – The Question (Single)
Swiss blues-rock outfit Ellis Mano Band have released their second single ‘The Question’ which is taken from their forthcoming album ‘AMBEDO’. However, the new track features Mr Lachy Doley who has worked with the likes of Glenn Hughes, Joe Bonamassa and Jimmy Barnes as well as being a successful solo artist in his own right.
Drummer Nico Looser lays down a heavy beat alongside the groovy bassline courtesy of Severin Graf and Doley’s textured Hammond Organ. I can’t help but be reminded of the intro to the radio hit ‘Radar Love’ by the rockers Golden Earring and it sets the scene beautifully.
The lead vocal from Chris Ellis is clear and emotive which allows the lyrics written by Shane Brady to shine. Edis Mano’s fluid-rock electric guitar tone has this real lush quality without being overpowering which is extremely refreshing.
The inclusion of Lachy Doley’s vintage-sounding Hammond solo allows the tune to come to life and if you enjoy the work of the late Jon Lord then Doley’s slick delivery will appeal. The catchy chorus is not dissimilar to the Lenny Kravitz number ‘Dirty White Boots’ from his 2015 album ‘Strut’ at times and will be popular on the radio.
In conclusion, ‘The Question’ is a strong single with all the right components; fascinating lyrics, music that allows the skilled musicians to ‘breathe’ musically and an overall cohesive sound. If you enjoy rock acts such as King King, Stereophonics, Deep Purple and the aforementioned Golden Earring then give the song an airing and turn the volume up.
