Garbage — The Men Who Rule The World (Single)
Garbage have toured the world, were responsible for the theme of James Bond film ‘The World Is Not Enough’, have released six studio albums and are scheduled (pandemic and Government guidelines permitting) to join Blondie on a live UK arena tour in late 2021.
The 11th June 2021 will see the release of the band’s seventh album entitled ‘No Gods No Masters’, the follow-up to 2016’s ‘Strange Little Birds’. The first single from the new record is ‘The Men Who Ruled The World’ and deals with men who are in positions of power and abuse them by putting themselves before others.
The electro-funk sound includes hypnotic bass courtesy of Duke Erikson whilst powerhouse vocalist Shirley Manson sings “The violator, hate the violator. Destroy the violator” – the lyrics are highly emotive with everything going in the world especially with the global Covid-19 pandemic and political climate. Garbage always seemed to have the ability to create songs that connect with the listener and make them think about the world around them.
However, with ‘The Men Who Ruled The World’ Garbage are being innovative by experimenting with different styles and tones as a tribal drum beat is laid down by Butch Vig as fluid electric guitar pours out of Steve Marker’s fingers and through my speakers.
Overall, this new single is an anthemic and welcome offering from the rock quartet as it is full to the brim with vibrancy and passion. It will join tracks such as ‘I’m Only Happy When It Rains’, ‘Stupid Girl’ and ‘Special’ to become a live favourite when the world of live music returns.
Garbage’s seventh studio album ‘No Gods No Masters’ is released on Friday 11th June 2021 on Stunvolume/Infectious Music. You can pre-order the album at www.garbage.com
