George Eve — I Don’t Mind (Single)
The track starts with memorable mumbling surrounded by upbeat acoustic guitar and for the most part sticks with that for the duration of the song. However, it seems that George Eve has taken a leaf out of Crash Test Dummies’ book who had a hit song with the uncomplicated ‘Mmm Mmm Mmm Mmm’ to create a quirky yet memorable piece of music.
Production-wise, the use of rhythmic clapping and a Mexicana-esque muted trumpet blends well with Eve’s voice and I can picture driving down a street on a sunny day with this blasting out the speakers.
One important thing to say about George Eve is that he can have a Gary Numan sounding number one minute like his previous release ‘Ready For It’ and then he will go down the acoustic pop route. He seems willing to experiment musically rather than do the same thing over and over again. That is quite a skill to step out of your comfort zone and try something new.
If the hit television show ‘Scrubs’ was still on air, this song would work well during an emotional conclusion scene imho.
To summarise, if you enjoy the music of George Ezra and are looking for some new music to sit comfortably on your playlist then ‘I Don’t Mind’ is the perfect song for you.
