KeyHole the Music is a new project by Londoner and singer-songwriter Mark Hole. Mark has released previous albums including ‘F-Sharp’ and ‘People Change’ and he has also opened for Tori Amos on her UK/European tour in 2011.
Now although he disappeared for a while he is now back with a brand new type of Synth soul and pop in the form of his new EP ‘Synth’. Opener ‘It’s A Damn Shame’ is a slow soul tune which has rich lead vocals and I can hear it being played in clubs all around the world. As people say ‘This is my jam’ (I mean music jam though and not a preserve. I can appreciate that it may be a bit of a confusing statement.)
‘On Repeat’ is a catchy track as Mark sings ‘If only I could stop acting crazy, like a baby, with Tourette’s’ and you can tell that he definitely has a sense of humour. The production is slick and has captured that nightclub by the beach sound beautifully and quite honestly, acts like Disclosure should be scared of KeyHole the Music especially with the funky electric guitar and cool keyboards intertwining.
‘Parental Dancing’ puts a smile on your face as your memories of ’embarrassing dad moments’ and the inevitable ‘dad dancing’ which always comes out at family occasions such as weddings and birthdays. Mark tells us to embrace these moments rather then shun them and you can’t help but dance to this song. It sounds like he has been listening to a lot of Daft Punk, Chic featuring Nile Rodgers and Australian Sam Sparro who is well known in the UK for his hit ‘Black and Gold’. The entire EP is well-crafted and with Mark Hole it is all about the songs and he is an individual who can make you smile and make you cry (his songs ‘Tori Tour’ and ‘Torture Garden’ from his previous releases are particularly emotional).
I am excited about hearing more material from both Mark Hole and KeyHole the Music and if the ‘Synth’ EP is anything to go by we will probably be dancing to his songs in clubs from Ibiza to Newcastle and everywhere in between very soon. Watch this space…
