SHEENA
‘Moving On’ (Single)
DR Productions
She’s tipped by one of the key coaches on TV’s The Voice show as a performer with a future and this single finds Sheena Ladwa taking a step towards a global presence in the world of music. Music’s gain may be football’s loss, given that our lass’s soccer skills gained her a trial with the national women’s team !
It helps that she writes her own material, but the appeal of this neatly constructed upbeat number benefits from a cool video, in which our chanteuse sings of deceit by one of those terrible males as masked guests turn up for some sort of shady function. Yes, the band is masked too and includes two stunning backing singers, a springheeled rhythm section, cruising Hammond and a guitar I described to the PR as ‘ straight out of Last Night a DJ Saved My Life…
Sheena sings –on this cut, anyway – like an airy Joan Armatrading and with great diction, too. As dancers move around the room, the song twists into an optimistic mood, chorus catchy as hell.
The more I hear this cut, the more it seems to fit into that Bonnie Pointer/Ashford & Simpson insistent funk groove. Hence radio play is a distinct possibility. Quality pop music that will sound fine in a car.
I am sure she can do more, so bring on the debut album please.
