Steve Balsamo – Armour Of My Soul (Single)
Following on from the Americana offering with ‘Don’t Feel Like Love’, Steve Balsamo has released a new track ‘Armour of My Soul’. Produced by Tim Hamill at Sonic One Studio in Wales, it was written twenty years ago by Steve Balsamo and David Batteau.
During the lockdown, Balsamo rediscovered the handwritten lyrics placed within the pages of Virgil’s Aeneid given to him by Batteau all those years ago. Unable to locate the original audio Steve rewrote the music for it.
A light spooky pedal steel guitar from Hamilton Belk plays alongside Andy Collins’ solid bass as Balsamo sings “Ohhh you are the armour of my soul/My battle cry/Ohhh you are the shield of faith that tumbles from the sky/Ohhh you are the armour of my soul”.
The additional backing vocals from Dear Stella (Stefanie Drexler) are pleasant and mixed well with the emotive lead vocal. Interestingly, the single has made the A-List playlist on BBC Radio Wales and it is clear why with its lush arrangement and thoughtful lyrics.
To accompany the release, Balsamo has also shared a music video that we won’t spoil for you but it is heart-warming in nature. It was filmed by Rhys Davies of Furball Films and stars actress Ceri Ann Gregory. You can watch the video in this article.
To summarise, ‘Armour of My Soul’ explains that it is the relationships that we build (and sustain) that truly support and protect us and that without them we would be without our ‘armour’. A beautifully written song that will be a welcome addition to any future EP or album release.
