These Wicked Rivers
‘Lady Killer’ (Taken from ‘The Enemy’ EP)
(Independent)
Now JLTT recently received an email from a mysterious individual called ‘John’ who told us about a new blues rock outfit named These Wicked Rivers. He explained that they have released a new EP entitled ‘The Enemy’ and that one standout track in particular he would recommend to us is ‘Lady Killer’.
I have to admit his comparisons of Joe Bonamassa, Pearl Jam and Guns & Roses were big statements but his polite and detailed message did intrigue me, even if he does have the same name as one of the band members…
These Wicked Rivers are a blues/rock band from Derby, United Kingdom with John Hartwell (Lead vocals & Rhythm guitar), Arran Day (Lead guitar & Backing vocals), John Hallam (Bass) hailing from the East Midlands whilst drummer Dan Southall was born and raised in the West Midlands.
The track hits you straight away heavy rock guitar and Hartwell definitely has the right voice to lead a band of this calibre. I found the guitar solo to be a tad self-indulgent but I can hear their influences such as Royal Blood, Rival Sons and Black Stone Cherry. It is quite memorable and with a push it would be able to receive some airplay on Planet Rock.
I would definitely like to hear the rest of ‘The Enemy’ EP and if they played any shows in the London/South East area I would see them in a live setting. They have already manufactured some really cool t-shirts and they are doing the sensible thing of creating a brand early so that people become aware of them and they can spread the word as it were.
As long as they keep promoting the EP and developing their live skills through live gigs I can see them playing rock festivals like Ramblin Man Fair 2016 or even opening for one of their high-profile inspirations. Keep at it lads, you’ve made a great start.
