Troy Redfern – Getaway (Single)

British slide guitarist Troy Redfern has been gradually building up his fanbase with extensive touring especially on festivals and support slots alongside a fairly consistent output of new music.

The guitar slinger has returned with his brand new single entitled ‘Getaway’ which is the second single release to be taken from his forthcoming 2024 album ‘Invocation’.

Getaway is produced by Dave Marks and mixed by Jo Webb. The new single features Troy Redfern (guitar, vocals), Paul Stewart (drums), and Dave Marks (bass).

The solid rhythm section keep the fluid rock anthem punchy as Troy sings “Got the burnin’ heart. I don’t waste no time” in a slight American twang. I’m reminded at times of Bon Jovi in terms of the vocals and overall tone of the single.

The rockier sound of ‘Getaway’ seems completely intentional especially with the line “I’m never runnin’ out of juice. Leave those blues up on the shelf”.

I do respect Troy Redfern for musically mixing things up a bit as it would not be interesting for himself or the listeners if he just decided to make the same album again.

However, the signature guitar solo is present and driven as it complements the lyrically themes of freedom and accepting when it is the right time to leave a bad situation (The song is not a story about a bank heist with a title of ‘Getaway’ although with Redfern on a Resonater Guitar that could be an interesting idea for a future song).

In conclusion, established fans of Troy Redfern will welcome him and his new single back with open arms with his rock ‘n’ roll swagger, songwriting chops and melodic guitar whilst newer listeners will be intrigued and might want to investigate further.
