Years & Years – Starstruck (Single)
2021 has seen Olly Alexander showcase his acting talents with a role in Russell T Davies’s ‘It’s A Sin’ which has received both critical and public acclaim for the emotionally charged subject matter of the Aids crisis between 1981 to 1991.
Alexander then announced that Years and Years would continue as his solo project having originally launched in 2010 as a trio with Mikey Goldsworthy and Emre Türkmen. A third album is scheduled for release and the record’s first single is ‘Starstruck’.
The upbeat keyboards and synthesisers set the scene early on as Olly Alexander sings “I feel like all these people in this room don’t shine like you” as the groovy bassline allows it to be an earworm tune perfect for radio.
Olly Alexander is a multi-instrumentalist with a solid understanding of pop song structure and production and ‘Starstruck’ allows him to take this knowledge so that his new single can be dripping in hypnotic beats and a crowd sing-along chorus for when the live music industry can reopen.
