Country-Pop Trio Just Jayne Bring Bravado To Breakup Blues On New Single ‘Death & Taxes’

by | Feb 20, 2026

Today, all-female trio Just Jayne return with their radiant new single “Death & Taxes.” The country-pop powerhouse’s first new music of 2026, “Death & Taxes” delivers a sharp-witted takedown of an all-too-predictable ex.

A Nashville-based outfit comprised of singer/songwriters Taylor EdwardsJillian Steele, and Rachel WigginsJust Jayne recently landed on the “RISERS: 2026 Artists to Watch” roundup from Taste of Country, who noted that “Just Jayne are bringing beautiful three-part harmonies back to country music.” On “Death & Taxes,” the trio layer those lush and lively harmonies into a bubbly but biting post-breakup anthem that skips the heartache and goes straight for unapologetic sass.

Produced by Matt Geroux (Josh Ross, Canaan Cox), “Death & Taxes” finds Just Jayne stepping into the role of a self-assured woman who knows her ex’s playbook by heart (the opening lines: “Don’t need a psychic / I got a feeling / You’re at the bar / Taking shots with Stephen / You’re gonna wake up / You’re gonna feel it / You’re gonna think of me while you stare at the ceiling”). With its sly humor, poetic turns of phrase, and nod to the inevitability of death and taxes, the song’s sing-along-ready chorus reframes missing her as just another certainty of life (“Just as sure as the world’s gonna turn / You’re gonna turn that truck back my way / Just as sure as the sun’s gonna burn / It’s gonna hurt when you hear my name”). Spun with lush mandolin lines, bright banjo riffs, and soulful pedal-steel tones, “Death & Taxes” ultimately adds a dose of much-needed bravado to the post-breakup blues.

Tonight in Atlanta, Just Jayne will continue their recent run as support for singer/songwriter Maddox Batson. After making their international debut by performing at C2C Festival in London next month, the trio will join multi-platinum hitmaker Nate Smith on the road in April. Known for their dazzling live show, Just Jayne have previously toured with superstars like Maddie & TaeBilly Currington, and Tyler Hubbard. Go HERE for more info on their upcoming live dates.

Co-written by Just Jayne, Sam Sumser, and Sean Small, “Death & Taxes” marks the follow-up to their fun-loving and feel-good single “Climate Change” — an October release featured on the star-studded Nobody Wants This Season 2: The Soundtrack. Since making their debut just over a year ago with “This Morning” (written in response to Morgan Wallen’s “Last Night” and told from the female point-of-view), they’ve also brought their whip-smart songcraft to acclaimed songs like “Breathe” (an August release that landed on Holler’s “Best New Country” playlist) and “The Way We Were” (hailed by Celeb Secrets as a “nostalgic rom-com wrapped in dreamy harmonies and country-pop sparkle”).
