UK alt-metal bruisers, TALLBOY, continue their swift rise with the release of their blistering new single and video, The One Below All, out now. We caught up with the band to find out more:
Do you have any interesting, funny or memorable stories from the recording sessions?
The solo section on this track was chaos in the best way. We had Jordan looping for about twenty minutes straight, then someone whipped out a phone and hit record and that was the take that made the cut. It’s up on our socials if you want to hear the magic unfold.
Did you use any particular instruments, microphones, recording equipment to help you get a particular sound/tone for the record?
Everything is pretty much done in the box.
The single is accompanied by a video. What was the thought process behind the video and who directed it?
The video aims to reflect the lyrics so it is all centred around a man stood at the edge of the sea looking over it as this beast emerges and the storm ensues. The unmoving person and the beast are there to represent the inevitability of the songs lyrics. Brad was the one who gave the directions for this video
Where is your hometown and could you please describe it in five words?
Barrow-in-Furness – industrial, coastal, resilient, close-knit, underrated.
How do you look after your voices?
Water, Gaviscon and Vocalzone products. Brad has constant issues with acid reflux so Gaviscon is his best friend. On the days of practice and shows, he goes through basic warmups early in the day (stretching and humming) and ensuring he stays hydrated. Avoiding acidic food is key as that impacts the voice. The only thing other than water used to help prepare and maintain the voice is Vocalzone or similar products which can help soothe your throat or help lubricate it. Another key thing is to not overwork your voice during the day.
First and foremost, we hope we all leave feeling like we had a great time and that everything went according to plan. Just as importantly, we hope the crowd enjoyed themselves and leave with a lasting memory of the performance.
Do you have any further music releases planned for 2026?
We have a whole bunch of new material recorded and currently in the mixing stage, we hope to have an album out by the end of the year.
Who are some of your musical influences? Do you have any recommendations?
We all come from different musical backgrounds, with far too many influences to name, but we think they all blend together nicely to create the Tallboy sound.
What makes Tallboy happy and what makes you unhappy?
We love writing music, every time we get in a room together and start creating, we come away with new material that we’re all really excited about. Making music is what makes us happiest. We don’t want to sound too negative, but social media can sometimes feel like a chore. Trying to fit into an algorithm can be frustrating and occasionally makes it feel like all your effort is disappearing into a void.
