As Black Lounge release their latest single ‘Roommate’, we chatted with James Ladds the bassist of the band:

Who is in Black Lounge, how did you meet and what do you play?

Black Lounge is made up of George Grant (Guitar and Singer) Jack Cassidy (Drums) Ben Gulik (Lead Guitar) and James Ladds (Bass Guitar) we met online – a platform called band mix.

What is your earliest musical memory?

My earliest musical memory is singing Christmas carols in primary school we had to gather around the piano and sing Rudolph the Red Nose Reindeer.

You have your new track ‘Roommate out now. Where did you record the track and who produced it?

We recorded the track in RAK Studios, St John’s Wood the producer was Danton Supple.

Do you have any interesting, funny or memorable stories from the recording sessions?

On the last night, I cooked family dinner for everyone. George maintains it’s the best prawn linguine he’s ever had.

The single is accompanied by an official music video. What was the thought process behind the video and who directed it?

We wanted to make it look like it had walked straight out of the early 2000s with a fish eye lens & old school colour grade. We’re excited for people to see it

Do you have any further music releases planned for 2026?

Yes 👀

You are given the opportunity to write the score for a film adaptation of a novel that you enjoy. Which novel is it and why?

We would write a guitar soundtrack to the children’s classic The Gruffalo.

What makes Black Lounge happy and what makes you unhappy?

The first daffodil of spring. an empty ice cream cone.
