Ervin Munir Talks New Singles, Future Plans And More

 Norfolk based Ervin Munir is a solo acoustic singer/songwriter who has released his singles ‘Chase The Moon’ and ‘Felixstowe’. Ervin spoke to us here:

When did you begin songwriting and recording music?

I began writing songs in my teens about not being able to find love, but didn’t really commit to songwriting until 2022. I’m working on my second album now.

What is your earliest musical memory?

Listening to Disney music at home.

Your new single ‘Chase The Moon’ is out now. What was the story/inspiration behind the track?

My musical career was the inspiration for Chase The Moon, plus a line from a thriller I was watching on tv!

Where did you record the single and who produced it?

I recorded the single in my home studio in Sheringham (Norfolk, UK) and Aeron Z Jones was the producer. He has produced all my songs so far.

Was it a difficult song to write?

It was one of the easier songs I have written. It was more lyric led and it took a while to come up with the melody.

Who created/designed the single artwork?

The artwork picture was taken by Samyantak Mohanty. I made it black and white and added the lettering.

Do you have any favoured stage instruments, effects, pedals, microphones etc?

I always use an SM58 mic (reliable, consistent, good sound) on stage and mostly a Bose PA system (excellent sound). I also use a TC-Helicon Voicelive 3 Extreme (for guitar and vocal effects).

I also always play my lovely Taylor semi-acoustic.

Where is your hometown and could you please describe it in five words?

I live in lovely Sheringham, Norfolk (UK). A friendly and musical town.

Do you have any plans for live shows in Europe/UK in 2024?

I am always performing locally as a solo artist or in my band. I am also thinking about a solo tour this year.

You are given the opportunity to write the score for a film adaptation of a novel that you enjoy. Which novel is it and why?

Dune – I loved the books. They painted a vivid, dramatic picture of Arrakis and the story characters.

Who are some of your musical influences? Do you have any recommendations?

Simon and Garfunkel, Neil Young, Fleetwood Mac and the Eagles. I enjoy vocal harmonies.

How do you look after your voice?

I warm up before every gig. Don’t smoke. Don’t drink. I’m basically careful with it. Especially when I catch a cold!

Do you have any further music releases planned for 2024?

I plan to release a bunch of new singles and my second album. My next single “Felixstowe” is due for release on the 8th June.

What makes Ervin Munir happy and what makes you unhappy?

Music and friends make me happy. Violence and injustice and bullies make me sad. Everybody should be treated equally and fairly. There’s not enough of that happening in the world these days.
