Fast Money Music Announces New Single
On Friday, Fast Money Music returns with “Unfortunately”, a bittersweet anthem and the latest glimpse at his self-titled debut album arriving this spring.
Following the momentum of “Round and Round” (Steve Lamacq BBC 6Music, Clash Magazine) and “Lover Boy” (HERO, Flaunt Mag, John Kennedy Radio X), Fast Money Music is back with “Unfortunately”, and the announcement of the debut album ‘Fast Money Music’, arriving on April 17th 2026.
“Unfortunately” is a bittersweet anthem built on dueling guitars, a driving pulse, and lyrics that sway between intimacy and distance. The track unfolds with seaside imagery: waves, moonlight, and hushed silences, all echoing the cycles of timing in relationships. At its core is a refrain that admits to carrying too much, with both voices weighed down by baggage they can’t quite put aside. Tender yet restless, it captures that familiar space between holding on and letting go.
Recorded between Hackney Road Studios and Fast Money Music’s own space in Dalston, “Unfortunately” pulls from the grooves of The War On Drugs, infusing early New Order sentimentality with a dash of Orange Juice’s bright jangle. “It’s my haunted reply to Rupert Holmes’ ‘Escape (The Piña Colada Song)’,” explains Nick Hinman, “this time centred around NOT drinking, and with the uncertainty of whether the two ever end up together. At its core it’s about intuition, the weight of self-doubt, and how often we’re at the mercy of the forces of nature.”
The track was produced by Nick Hinman (Fast Money Music), with executive production and mixing by Mikko Gordon (The Smile, Arcade Fire) and mastering by Matt Colton (Depeche Mode, Wet Leg, Arctic Monkeys). It features guitar from Daniel Vildòsola (CMAT) and drums by Steffan Halperin (Klaxons).
“Unfortunately” features on Fast Money Music’s upcoming debut album, set for release in the spring. It’s a record steeped in tough nostalgia – bittersweet pop, jagged post-punk, and breezy jangle shaped by the lo-fi charm of The Cleaners from Venus, the restless drive of Guided by Voices, and the wiry funk of ESG. Written across a decade, it explores longing, identity, rejection, and above all, how timing is everything.
“The debut Fast Money Music LP is a carousel of images and vignettes,” explains Nick, “some pulled from the attic, some found at the front door. It’s part novel, part autobiography, part love story, part tragedy, and part comedy: life on life’s terms. More than anything, it feels like the most authentically me – an amalgamation of memories and experiences, pulling from art pop, post-punk, and new wave, yet landing fully in its own world.”
Built on collaboration, it features John Waugh and George Daniel (The 1975), Jamie Reynolds and Steffan Halperin (Klaxons), Daniel Vildòsola (CMAT, Haelos), with guest turns from Oliver Marson and Zoë Bleu. The record was produced by Grammy-nominated Mikko Gordon (IDLES, The Smile) and Nick Hinman, mixed by Mikko Gordon at Hackney Road Studios, and mastered by Grammy-winning Matt Colton (Depeche Mode, Peter Gabriel, Arctic Monkeys).
Lauded by Jack Saunders (BBC Radio 1), Steve Lamacq (BBC 6Music), Matt Wilkinson (Apple Music) and John Kennedy (Radio X) and earning coverage from SPIN, Clash, DIY HERO, Spotify Fresh Finds and Apple Music New In Alternative amongst others, FMM has built a loyal following since 2022, with sold-out headline performances across East London venues, a showcase at Supersonic Paris, a coveted slot at The Great Escape 2025, and a UK tour supporting Tempesst.
‘Fast Money Music’, the debut album, is scheduled for release on 17th April 2026.
