Jason Piccioni Shares New Album ‘Cupid in the Sky’
Born into a world shaped by music, cinema, and creativity, Jason Piccioni — also known through his more experimental project Electric J — has spent much of his life surrounded by extraordinary artistry.
But after years behind the scenes as a writer, producer, collaborator, and archivist, he is now stepping fully into his own spotlight.
The son of legendary Italian composer Piero Piccioni and actress Gloria Paul, Jason grew up in Italy immersed in music from an early age. Piero Piccioni was one of the defining composers of 20th century Italian cinema, known for blending jazz, orchestral composition, funk, and cinematic experimentation across hundreds of film scores. Watching his father compose and record in world-class studios gave Jason an instinctive connection to music long before he began creating it himself.
After later moving to England for school and university, and spending time in Paris, Jason eventually found himself immersed in New York’s underground house scene. Releasing vinyl under the alias Electric J, he built a reputation across respected house labels before returning to London, where his sound evolved into deeper, more experimental territory spanning drum and bass, trip-hop, jazz fusion, and atmospheric electronic production.
Over the years, Jason’s work as a writer and producer led to a publishing deal with Universal Music Publishing Group, a recording contract with Warner Music Group subsidiary WEA, and collaborations with artists and producers including Eumir Deodato and Kylie Minogue.
When Piero Piccioni passed away in 2004, Jason inherited an enormous archive of scores, recordings, and original master tapes. Since 2010, he has dedicated himself to restoring and preserving that catalogue, helping introduce his father’s music to new generations through streaming, sync placements, and online platforms. Much of the renewed global interest surrounding Piero Piccioni’s work today exists because of Jason’s years of careful preservation behind the scenes.
Now, after decades spent producing under aliases and collaborating with others, Jason is stepping forward fully under his own name with two new albums that reflect both sides of his artistic identity.
Cupid in the Sky is a groove-heavy, funk-infused record filled with warm melodies, uplifting energy, and Jason’s love of jazz, soul, and classic songwriting. Alongside it sits Piero Piccioni REVIBED, a project inspired by elements of his father’s musical universe but reimagined through Jason’s own modern lens, blending nu-jazz, cinematic textures, and contemporary production.
At the same time, Jason continues to develop Electric J as the more cutting-edge and experimental side of his artistry, exploring tech-driven electronic music, drum and bass, trap, and futuristic club production.
Both records were produced, programmed, and engineered by Jason himself, with additional musicianship from members of Orchestra 014, including drummer Francesco Mendolia of Incognito.
Alongside his own releases, Jason also runs Camille 3000, a creative platform focused on musical innovation and the fusion of analogue heritage with forward-thinking electronic production.
After years spent behind the curtain, Jason Piccioni is now stepping fully into the light as an artist in his own right.
