Odette Returns With A Cry To The Universe In New Single ‘AAAH!’
UK-born Australian singer-songwriter Odette today returns with her first release since 2024 with ‘AAAH!’ – a sharp soulful piano-led cry to the universe that also marks her debut on Melbourne/London independent Beloved Records.
Odette writes songs that feel like close-quarters confessions: soulful, sharp, and unafraid of honest reflection. Growing up with her parents’ eclectic tastes – from her mother’s love of pop and dance music driven by her Ximba ancestry, to her father’s pomme-punk, skater-boy nonsense – Odette grew up surrounded by music, and fell in love with its power to help the self endure difficult moments.
Releasing her debut album To a Stranger in 2018, which paved the way for her groundbreaking follow up Herald in 2021, Odette has consistently carved a lane of her own. Receiving immense critical acclaim and chart success, having earned a total of four ARIA Award nominations including Breakthrough Artist, Platinum Certification for ‘Lights Out’, plus three further Gold Certified singles under her belt, she has continued to captivate audiences with her charismatic stage presence and witty banter across support slots for the likes of Sam Smith and sold-out headline tours in Australia, UK and Europe.
In her first release since 2024’s soaring ‘Seahorses’, ‘AAAH!’ sees Odette picking up where she left off. Emerging as a track that lives between anxiety and enduring hope, ‘AAAH!’ is boundless and vocal-forward, refusing to feel powerless in the weight of the world – life is hard, you are more powerful than you think you are.
“AAAH! Is a cry to the universe” she shares. “Is anyone even there? I don’t drink alcohol anymore, I’m not a raging bitch most of the time now, so surely something must prevail. Surely this Earth isn’t just headed towards oblivion at the hands of billionaires who don’t really mind the impacts. This song is existential fear and a lot of hope. We are more powerful than we think.”
Sitting between the unvarnished style of Lola Young, the etherealness of Orion Sun or Babeheaven’s cathartic songwriting, Odette’s sound is built around piano-led balladry and her unmistakable spoken-word cadence, moving between tenderness and bite, turning private reckonings into something communal, piercing and transcending. Harnessing a songwriting craft that’s nothing short of exceptional, Odette’s approach to lyrical expression is strengthened by her unique sense of curiosity and openness, allowing for moments of vulnerability with unapologetic self-assurance.
