Shakin’ Stevens Unveils Soul-Stirring New Album “Re-Set” with Powerful Lyrics and Fresh Sound
Shakin’ Stevens, the legendary rock artist, has released his new album, “Re-Set,” which is now available for streaming and purchase. The album features the single “All You Need Is Greed,” which has been supported by Sleaford Mods and made it to the Radio 2 playlist. The album follows his highly acclaimed 2016 album “Echoes Of Our Times” and brings a fresh sound that combines heartfelt lyrics with passionate vocal performances.
“Re-Set” is a follow-up to “Echoes Of Our Times,” but as Stevens puts it, “It’s different. People were surprised by ‘Echoes Of Our Times,’ and I guess the same is going to happen with ‘Re-Set.'” The new album explores themes of modern life, both real and virtual, and the blurred lines between them. It also delves into family tales and their connections to the present day.
The album’s opening song, “George,” tells the sorrowful tale of Stevens’ uncle, who spent much of his life in mental institutions. The track is accompanied only by piano, setting a stark and simple musical tone. As the album progresses, the instrumentation takes on a more familiar rock framework, while maintaining the rootsy sound that Shakin’ Stevens is known for.
The single “All You Need Is Greed” has been described as “a cold analysis of scorched earth financialization over a lean hillbilly prowl” by Mojo. Other tracks, like “Dirty Water,” address topics such as addiction, friendship, and self-destruction.
“Re-Set” was recorded at co-producer John David’s Berry Hill Studio in Gloucestershire, with the recording process beginning in August 2021. Fans can expect a mix of old favourites and new tracks during Shakin’ Stevens’ live performances, such as his appearance as a Very Special Guest on Status Quo’s UK arena tour in late 2022.
