BRELAND – Heartbreak & Alcohol (Single)

by | Mar 24, 2024

New Jersey-bred singer/songwriter/producer BRELAND has releases his brand-new single ‘Heartbreak & Alcohol’ following his 2022 debut album release ‘CROSS COUNTRY’ as well as previous singles ‘My Truck’ (Platinum-Certified), ‘Praise The Lord’ featuring Thomas Rhett (Gold-Certified) and more.
Talking about the new singleBRELAND explained “It’s been a long journey for me blending country music with other genres, but one thing I always wanted to do is sample something from the hip-hop world.”
Enlisting producers Peter Thomas, Sam Sumser, and Sean Small for ‘Heartbreak & Alcohol’ is an interesting move for one song but countless single releases have several credited songwriters and producers involved.
Inspired by Lil Wayne’s ‘Love Me’ (feat. Drake and Future), this hip-hop song interpolation seems to dominate the entirety of the song which seems to slightly take away from the emotive lyrics.
Vocally, BRELAND has a solid vocal tone which can tackle the country-pop subgenre with relative ease.
However, I am perplexed by this idea that the song is genre-defining or genre-melding genius almost as if the worlds of Country and Hip-Hop have never crossed paths (Dear reader – I appreciate that you know that is most definitely not the case).
Past examples include Snoop Dogg teaming up with his friend Willie Nelson on tracks such as ‘Superman’, Florida Georgia Line remix of ‘Cruise’ featuring Nelly, Lil Nas X and Billy Ray Cyrus with ‘Old Town Road’ and of course Beyonce recently announced her journey into Country music and those are just a handful of examples.
In conclusion, ‘Heartbreak & Alcohol’ is something that BRELAND wanted to release on his terms blending the various types of music that he enjoys and that is a real positive that he has been allowed to musically express himself with a logical social media campaign utilising the likes of TikTok to spread the track far and wide.
It will be interesting to hear more material from BRELAND in the coming months as he begins a new chapter but whether it can replicate the success of his past releases only time will tell.

BRELAND’s  new single ‘Heartbreak & Alcohol’ is out now on Atlantic Records.
