Jo Harrop – Beautiful Fools (Single)

Jazz vocalist and songwriter Jo Harrop will release her new album ‘ The Path Of A Tear’ in June 2024. The first single to be taken from the album is called ‘Beautiful Fools’.

Recorded in September 2023 at The Village Studios in Los Angeles, US, Harrop co-wrote the song with Ian Barter (who worked as Amy Winehouse’s Musical Director).

The album’s producer Larry Klein (best-known for his groundbreaking work with a host of iconic artists including Joni Mitchell, Madeleine Peyroux and Herbie Hancock) was also on bass duties and performed alongside Anthony Wilson on Guitar (Diana Krall, Madeleine Peyroux), Jim Cox on Rhodes piano, Hammond B-3 Organ (Leonard Cohen and B.B. King) and Victor Indrizzo on Drums (Willie Nelson, Alanis Morissette).

The laid back Seventies groove sounds like a George Benson recording as Harrop softly sings “Here’s to those who fall too deep. Here’s to all those beautiful fools” with her velvety smooth voice.

Anthony Wilson’s guitar solo sounds quite Christmassy to me which I found quite interesting as I could hear the song being used in one of those popular television Christmas films which dominate the Winter schedule.

When previously talking about the track, Jo Harrop explained “It is a salute to all the folks who wear their hearts on their sleeves and don’t hold back in love. There are those who have light inside of them, the beautiful souls who keep on giving regardless of what life throws at them. This song is for them.”

In summary, I really enjoyed not only the meaning behind the single but also the smooth uncomplicated delivery from all of the talented people involved. If you enjoy the likes of Diana Krall, Charlie Wood and Norah Jones then I would recommend checking out Jo Harrop.
