Vocalist Margo Buchanan has a career spanning thirty years including the ‘Celebrating Jon Lord’ event where she performed a stunning take on ‘One From The Meadow’ recorded at The Royal Albert Hall in London.
In 2021, Buchanan has released the first single ‘Face Of The Moon’ which is taken from her forthcoming album ’40 Years’. The upbeat acoustic guitar intro segues into a steady drumbeat as she sings “I’ve seen you stumble, I’ve watched you fall and I see you thinking of trying to call it a day”. People who have seen a family member or friend in relationship trouble will understand this and the desire to want to help.
The track’s production is slick without being dominating so as to allow her textured voice to shine. Her tone reminds this scribe of Chrissie Hynde from The Pretenders but the backing has a Tom Petty and The Heartbreakers vibe with the percussive chug.
In conclusion, there is a reason why Margo Buchanan has worked with the likes of Jon Lord, Bonnie Tyler and the Pet Shop Boys amongst others; she has a powerhouse vocal that is well-controlled and can really bring a song to life. An enjoyable release that builds anticipation for not only the record but hopefully some live shows.
