Quinn Sullivan — All Around The World
Singer-songwriter and guitarist Quinn Sullivan first appeared on our radar in 2015 when he was opening for the legendary Buddy Guy at Eventim Apollo in Hammersmith, London, United Kingdom. The crowd was absolutely blown away with his immense guitar skills and his catchy songs including ‘Midnight Highway’. Buddy told the audience “Someone should give this kid a record deal!” and sure enough Provogue Records/Mascot Label Group did.
The album release led to several live shows across the globe including a slot on the first-ever Provogue Records ‘Rockin The Blues’ European tour alongside his label-mates Gary Hoey, Lance Lopez and Eric Gales. I remember meeting him and his father at The Garage in London as we spoke about how we were both going to the 2018 British Summertime Hyde Park concert headlined by Eric Clapton with the likes of Santana, Steve Winwood, Zucchero, Gary Clark Jr and JLTT friend Eric Paslay on the bill amongst others. Everyone who witnessed Sullivan on that tour knew that he had talent and would go far.
Fast forward to 2021 when the world is still caught up in a global pandemic in which large-scale events are on pause, meetings are being held on Zoom and everyone is told to stay at home. You can imagine what a pleasant surprise it was to then find out that Mr Quinn Sullivan had released a brand new track called ‘All Around The World’ which would be the first single from his forthcoming album ‘Wide Awake’.
The earworm electric guitar intro blends with a rich Hammond organ and reminds this scribe of early John Mayer with Sullivan’s radio-friendly lead vocal which really has matured over the last few years.
“I had a dream last night, there was nothing but good vibes all around the world” is a hopeful chorus that puts a smile on your face in these difficult confusing times. In a recent video, Quinn explained that the song was “lyrically about people coming together in a world of uncertainty and chaos” and was actually written in 2019 before the pandemic.
The sunshine sound will appeal to fans of Gavin DeGraw and Train whilst people who enjoy the guitar tone of Sullivan’s contemporaries Jonny Lang and Kenny Wayne Shepherd will appreciate the technically sublime guitar solo.
To summarise, ‘All Around The World’ is a welcome return from Quinn Sullivan and the positive message will really connect with listeners. An exciting taste of what is to come and the perfect introduction to ‘Wide Awake’.
