Seafoam Green — House on the Hill (Single)
Seafoam Green is Irish songwriting duo Dave O’Grady and Muireann McDermott Long and they have been specialising in the Americana sound. Having worked with Rich Robinson of The Black Crowes on their debut album, the pair are gearing up for the release of their second studio record – ‘Martin’s Garden’ which is produced by Tyler Greenwell – founding member of Grammy-Award winning Tedeschi Trucks Band.
The first single ‘House on the Hill’ kicks off with a punchy drum beat intro and O’Grady playing electric slide guitar for the first time on record which is no easy feat so that has to be commended. McDermott Long’s voice is clear and blends well with Dave O’Grady’s whiskey-soaked vocal that seems like it is trying to channel the voice of John Osborne of Brothers Osborne fame.
The production clearly fulfils the brief of ‘An Americana song that contains a driven beat that is perfect to listen to whilst driving along a motorway or highway’ and this isn’t Greenwell’s first rodeo in the world of recording so he has a complete understanding of O’Grady’s and McDermott Long’s harmonies and they sound strong on this single.
In conclusion, ‘House on the Hill’ is well-executed and proves that this duo work well together from a technical standpoint. However, the track’s lyrics seem quite forgetful and seem to get lost in amongst the rich Hammond Organ which is a shame. Though I am intrigued about the other material on ‘Martin’s Garden’ after hearing this.
Seafoam Green’s new single ‘House on the Hill’ is out now. Their second studio album ‘Martin’s Garden’ is released on Friday 1st June 2021. For more information visit www.seafoamgreenband.com
