The Damn Truth — This Is Who We Are Now (Single)
The Damn Truth is a four-piece band from Montreal, Canada that blends that rock ‘n’ roll sound with Psychedelia thus allowing them to delve into themes of love, togetherness and hope but on their terms.
They have announced the release of their third album entitled ‘Now Or Nowhere’ and have shared the records’ first single ‘This Is Who We Are Now’. Enlisting the talents of legendary Grammy-Award winning music producer Bob Rock whose previous credits include Bryan Adams and Metallica amongst others, the band set to work at Bryan Adams’ recording studio “The Warehouse” in Vancouver.
Dave Traina’s rhythmic drum intro sets the scene and segues into the powerful lead vocal from Lee-La Baum that rises majestically. Her sheer vocal presence puts her in the same league as Coleen Rennison of No Sinner, Beth Hart and Heart in my humble opinion. Interestingly, her vocals were recorded live off the floor so as to capture the group’s Seventies rock roots and it really pays off with the final result.
The electric guitar solo courtesy of Tom Shemer transports you back to the Sixties and the ideas of music and peace as Py Letterlier lays down a groovy bassline that wouldn’t be out of place at a Jefferson Airplane concert.
The track does have a real vintage tone but they still possess their own identity as a band full of new music and tones that they just want to share with the world. Working with (Bob) Rock, they were encouraged as he invited them to use an array of instruments and gear to really find the sound they were looking for.
Overall, ‘This Is Who We Are Now’ will please the outfit’s current fanbase whilst at the same time being the perfect introduction so that people all around the can #sharethetruth.
