Félix Rabin — Pogboy EP

by | Sep 25, 2020

French guitarist Félix Rabin has been steadily building his fanbase since he was fifteen having played in jam sessions across France and Switzerland. Rabin now has a six-track debut EP entitled Pogboy which was coined by recording engineer Ross Hogarth, who noticed his frequent use of a guitar effects pedal called Pog.

Opener Walk has a cosmic guitar tone not dissimilar to Joe Satriani and a tight rhythm section with Niccolò Rebecchi (drums) and Vincenzo Capodivento (bass). Moving On features rich horns courtesy of Mark Pender (trumpet) and Joe Sublett (sax). The night time sounding ‘Say You Won’t Leave Me’ includes a Hendrix-esque that showcases his technical skill. A highlight of the EP.

Next track ‘Death’ is a floaty number and reminds this writer of early Pink Floyd. The bluesy lyrics have real emotion and convey real maturity in the twenty-four-year-old. Closer ‘Gone’ has Félix accepting that a woman has gone and is not coming back. The tune is a real foot-tapper with a well-executed blues-rock riff that hypnotises the listener.

In conclusion, ‘Pogboy’ is the perfect introduction to Félix Rabin and a taster of what is to come at his live shows.
