Chayne is a 17-year-old alt-pop artist whose dark and edgy sound is embellished with a hint of indie glam rock — bold, cinematic, and unmistakably original. Her new single ‘It’s Gone’, He’s Gone’ is out now. She kindly spoke to us about the track and more:

When did you begin singing?

I sing ALL the time! Always have, so it’s kinda hard to pinpoint an exact moment. I first tried recording myself singing during Covid, so 2020-ish.

What is your earliest musical memory?

My brothers and I were in the back of a car listening to The Killers “Hot Fuss” and jumping around like crazy. I must have been 3!

You have released your new single ‘It’s Gone, He’s Gone’. What was the story/inspiration behind the track?

A girl I used to know was obsessed with a guy she was seeing and was convinced he could do no wrong. She thought he’d been sent to save her, ha ha! Anyway, that guy ended up pinning her to a wall with a knife to her throat…just goes to show, being alone ain’t SO bad!

Where did you record the single and who produced it?

Paul Thomson has produced everything I’ve done, in his tiny (boiling hot) studio near where I live. He’s an old rocker really, but we seem to work well together.

Do you have any interesting, funny or memorable stories from the recording sessions?

It was really quick. Paul had more or less everything ready and I just went in and sang all the parts in about an hour. It’s the way it has to be right now as I’m really busy with school…

Did you use any particular instruments, microphones, recording equipment to help you get a particular sound/tone for the record?

No, nothing in particular. That little piano motif that goes through the song was just something we came up with on this piano upstairs. The studio just has one microphone set up and about 10 guitars in a rack which we only use to try to work out any melodic parts. Everything else is virtual in Logic. Oh, and the bass! We use an old blue Gibson Thunderbird for the growly bass lines, which we love!! That bass is probably worth more than everything else in the studio put together

Do you have plans to have a visualiser accompany the single?

We just posted the video for the song on YouTube.

Which of your tracks hear you at your a) happiest, b) angriest and c) most reflective?

Happiest = “With You”

Angriest = “Typical Man”

Most reflective = “What You Do”

Unfortunately, you won’t hear them until the album comes out, so you’ll just have to take my word for it!

Do you have any further music releases planned for 2025?

Yes, new single (no.6 !!!) in late August, followed by the album in the autumn…that’s the plan anyway.

What two things do you hope to have achieved once you have left the stage?

Not to have completely embarrassed myself and to have left a few tunes in people’s heads.

Do you have any favoured stage instruments, effects, pedals, microphones etc?

No, sorry…I haven’t even done a gig yet!! But when I do, you’ll be invited.

Where is your hometown and could you please describe it in five words?

I live near Perpignan in France. It’s:

Shabby, chic (in places), hot, Catalan and lively.

How do you look after your voice?

I don’t, but I should. As I said, I’m always singing wherever I am, but I tend to keep it low-key, never straining it. I’m pretty calm as well, so I hardly ever shout. I wouldn’t mind getting vocal training though as I’m pretty sure I’m not doing it correctly, ha ha!

You are given the opportunity to write the score for a film adaptation of a novel that you enjoy. Which novel is it and why?

I’m not much of a reader these days, so it would have to be a book from my childhood. I read all the Malory Towers series by Enid Blyton over and over again…I’d choose them (but I don’t think anyone will be adapting them anytime soon!)

What makes Chayne happy and what makes you unhappy?

Cats in general make me happy, but especially my two cats!

Trying to plan my future makes me unhappy, I hate thinking about it!!
