Americana Singer-Songwriter Whitney Lyman Unveils Timeless New EP ‘Becoming You’ Out 24th October 2025
Los Angeles-based songwriter Whitney Lyman returns with ‘Becoming You,’ an intimate new EP arriving 24th October 2025.
Blending the shimmer of indie rock, the nostalgic soul of Americana, and the allure of alternative pop, Lyman crafts songs that feel both timeless and deeply personal. Her soaring, emotive vocals and luminous lyrics move with a rare honesty, carried through dynamic arrangements that call to mind the classic spirit of Fleetwood Mac and the warmth of Sheryl Crowe and Alanis Morisette.
Lyman kicked off the EP with the release of ‘Supermoon’ on April 22nd, a lush, fairy-tale-like composition that transports listeners into a magical realm of castles, knights, and epic love stories. Inspired by Whitney’s time in North Wales, the song’s sweeping soundscape is accompanied by an enchanting music video drawing from the album’s illustrious artwork. On July 18th, she revealed the next chapter with ‘All About Love,’ a nostalgic nod to ‘90s romcom that tackles the pursuit of external validation and material success, urging listeners to realign their priorities around love and authenticity.
The title track, ‘Becoming You,’ effortlessly captures the EP’s overarching theme – a euphoric ode to self-discovery that grapples with the dissonance between personal struggles and societal expectations, ultimately embracing the beauty of imperfection and transformation. Transitioning into a more empowering tone, ‘Solid Ground’, which received critical acclaim at radio, finds Lyman vowing to perseverance, representing the challenging middle stretch of her emotional journey. The turning point comes as the realization dawns that stability and empowerment were always within reach.
‘Undoing’ takes a darker, hypnotic turn, weaving spiritual harmonies with searing electric guitar and resonant organ tones. A meditation on shedding external expectations and returning to one’s core essence, the song embodies a trance-like state, guiding the listener through a profound emotional and psychological unraveling.
The EP closes with orchestral renditions of ‘Solid Ground’ and ‘Supermoon,’ stripped back to reveal their essence, where her voice and melodies rise unadorned, carrying raw emotion with a peaceful, timeless power. Featuring masterful string arrangements from Andrew Joslyn, listeners are transported into an even more cinematic realm that highlights the song’s profound depth.
A deeply collaborative effort, ‘Becoming You’ was created in partnership with acclaimed multi-instrumentalist and producer Cherish Alexander (Cyndi Lauper, Josie Cotton, Tiffany). Introduced by legendary songwriter Alan Roy Scott (Celine Dion, Cyndi Lauper, Cher), Lyman and Alexander discovered an effortless creative synergy, crafting captivating songs that bridge introspective lyricism with lush, immersive instrumentation. Recorded between Poodle Pop Studios and Kitten Robot Studios in Los Angeles, the EP features an all-star lineup of musicians, including George Bellias (Bon Jovi, Jennifer Lopez, Britney Spears), Jano Janosik (The Violets, Bella Bazarria, Stewboss), and renowned composer Andrew Joslyn (Kesha, Suzanne Vega, Duff McKagan), whose orchestral arrangements elevate the EP’s emotional resonance. Engineered and mixed by Paul Roessler (Josie Cotton, Leah Andreone, Pat Smear) and mastered by the legendary Dave Donnelly (Beck, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Aerosmith), ‘Becoming You’ is as sonically rich as it is emotionally profound. The album artwork—a striking portrait by fine artist Clifford Bailey—pays homage to Joni Mitchell’s iconic Clouds cover, visually reflecting the introspective nature of the EP.
Having initially made her mark in the illustrious Seattle music scene, Lyman has gone on to perform on Jimmy Kimmel Live! with Grammy-nominated Odesza, opened for artists such as Tom Odell and The Bird and the Bee, and played at music festivals including Capitol Hill Block Party, the NAMM Show 2025 official stage, Mastering the Music Business in Bucharest, Romania, and has toured across the US and Europe. She is endorsed by several top brands in the music industry, including Gibson Guitar, Telefunken Mics, Casio Keyboards, and Mackie Gear.
In 2024, Lyman made her debut performance in the UK at FOCUS:Wales International Showcase Festival and returned six months later for a UK headline tour. After receiving an incredibly positive response from audiences, Whitney then returned in 2025 for her third UK tour, including dates at FOCUS:Wales 2025 and The Dublin Castle in London to support the upcoming release of “Becoming You.”
With “Becoming You,” Whitney Lyman delivers an intimate, yet evocative and cinematic collection of songs, each piece resonating with the honesty and depth that define her artistry. This EP is not just a musical work but a transformative journey – one that invites listeners to embark on their own path of self-discovery and renewal.
