Imelda May — Made For Love (Single)
Irish singer-songwriter Imelda May has steadily built a loyal global fanbase with her velvety vocals and powerful material. As a result, she has headlined The Royal Albert Hall, performed with the likes of Jeff Beck, Jools Holland, The Dubliners and Ronnie Wood to name but a few and has six albums to name with her latest ’11 Past The Hour’ scheduled for release in April 2021.
The second single from this record is entitled ‘Made To Love’ and features the aforementioned Ronnie Wood on guitar, activist Gina Martin who was instrumental in the Voyeurism (Offences) Act 2019 being made law in April 2019 provides backing vocals as does Dr Shola Mos-Shogbamimu, a lawyer and activist May had met during an International Woman’s Day event.
The rhythmic intro has a steady drumbeat and fluid guitar as Imelda May sings “Life’s already tough enough. We were made to love”. The song’s production includes a rich string tone that blends beautifully with Wood’s rocky electric guitar and the impactful lyrics dealing with themes of togetherness and acceptance.
Commenting on the track Imelda May explained “I wanted this to be that song where, if you’re at a festival or live gig, you can throw your arms around that person beside you, can all dance around, sing together and feel connected. And I wanted that moment on the album”.
In conclusion, May has truly embraced the subject matter and brought in talented individuals that she has respect for to help convey her message. Vocally, ‘Made To Love’ is easy on the ear and an exciting taster for ’11 Past The Hour’ and her future live appearances including Black Deer Festival in June 2021.
