Newmoon – Fading Phase (Single)

Newmoon are a five-piece shoegaze band from Antwerp, Belgium. They will release their third studio album ‘Temporary Light’ in March 2024 and have shared the album’s first single ‘Fading Phase’.

The song’s existence began when singer and guitarist Bert Cannaerts had a new guitar, a Ninties Rickenbacker to be precise as he admits “The main riff of ‘Fading Phase’ was the first thing I wrote on that guitar and the whole song just kind of wrote itself as soon as I had that riff. It was one of those magical moments where everything just falls into place.”

The band’s new drummer, Conor Dawson provides a steady drum beat with light cymbals that helps create the overall ethereal tone that is perfect for relaxing and chilling out to.

I must acknowledge the work by Thomas Valkiers at Hightime Studio eho recorded and mixed the track and also Simon Scott at SPS mastering who mastered the song.

In conclusion, whilst I’m not what you would call an expert on the Shoegaze genre, I enjoyed the simplicity and laid-back nature of ‘Fading Phase’ and I will be interested to hear the ‘Temporary Light’ album to hear what else they musically have to offer.
