The Cold Stares — Hard Times (Single)
The Cold Stares are a duo from North America and formed in 2010 after Chris Tapp (Lead Vocals/Guitar) and Brian Mullins (Drums) simply wanted to get together to jam.
They have recently announced that they have officially signed to the independent record label Mascot Records with their first single being ‘Hard Times’ which is from their forthcoming album. Opening with an earworm heavy rock guitar riff, it is then met with a solid drum beat courtesy of Mullins that will just sound so powerful in a live setting.
“I can’t pay my rent, I can’t even sleep at night, a black cat won’t cross my path and my chest is getting tight” proclaims Tapp with the lead vocals reminding this writer of vocalist Noah Hunt known for not only his solo work but also his impactful role in the Kenny Wayne Shepherd Band.
The chorus is a memorable sing-along offering that would sit comfortably on a rock radio playlist nestled alongside Motorhead and Golden Earring. If you enjoy the music of artists such as Black Pistol Fire, Jared James Nichols and Royal Blood than you might enjoy The Cold Stares.
To summarise, ‘Hard Times’ is a slice of blues-rock served with lashings of musical skill and relevant lyrics that make it quite possible the ‘Born Under A Bad Sign’ type of song for 2021.
