Angélique Kidjo ft. Yemi Alade — Dignity (Single)

by | Jun 2, 2021

Angélique Kidjo’s new single ‘Dignity’ is the perfect upbeat song for Spring/Summer 2021 as the UNICEF Ambassador and GRAMMY-Award winner offers a glimpse of her forthcoming album with a piece of music influenced by the Nigerian Youth Movement.

A fluid electric guitar dances with percussion as  Kidjo sings “Dignity can either sever or kill you” and it is the combination of hard-hitting lyrics and this hypnotic groove that reminds me of going to see the likes of Baaba Mall and Songhoy Blues live in concert when they would come to London.

Yemi Alade has this rich voice that projects and allows the track to sound three-dimensional as she cries “Come in peace, not in pieces”.

To summarise, ‘Dignity’ is not only summery in its delivery but it is also thought-provoking as these two powerful voices join together both entertain and inform. A strong offering from Angélique Kidjo during a difficult time for the world.
